Well what a trip it was. When I go and do a survey it is with one or at the most two other people in the one vehicle.
But this trip saw 9 people & 3 vehicles who ventured to Tassie in July.
Team 1:- "ArchAngel" - MMM, Susan, Yoke Tan & Jason both from Malaysia.
Team 2:- "Cookie" - John Leeson, Stiven Sim & Voo Ken Yin also from Malaysia.
Team 3:- "Sweet Freedom or Thumper or Beachies" - Peter Clark & Graeme Brown.
Day 1:- Well after getting off the boat in the dark at Devonport we continued to Sheffield for breakfast at the bakery. Afterwards we made our way to Cradle Mountain arriving just after lunch time. We had time to sneak down to look at Dove Lake before sitting down to a great Malaysian dinner prepared by all our Malaysian guests.
Day2:- Saw us head off from Cradle Mountain heading towards Stanley. Some off road driving before having to turn back due to *MOAB being washed away (*Mother of all bridges), arrived in Stanley on nightfall and had a very enjoyable stay at the Stanley Pub.
Day 3:- Nice drive down to Corinna. Balfour Track was deep and fun. And what can I say about the Ring River Track?? Plenty, but you will get to see it next year. (All our vehicles will have to dry out carpets after this one).
Day 4:- That evening saw us in Strahan staying at the Strahan Holiday Park (I highly recommend this place as your base when you stay in Strahan). Again another Malaysian dinner prepared by our overseas guests.
Day 5:- Our guests from Malaysia & Susan took the day off & and did the rack & pinion train ride upto Queenstown while the rest stayed and cleaned cars in Strahan. Dinner was great Aussie pizzas followed by a few wine & beer.
Day 6:- Off we go and got as far as Queenstown. Spent the day driving beside the World Heritage listed Wildness Areas that surround Queenstown towards the Franklin River. We were able to get within 300 meters of the river, but it was a very steep climb, maybe next year.
Day 7:- Todays drive was through the Wilderness Area, morning tea at Derwent Bridge and a stop over at "The Wall", this place is a must see, the timber carvings are so life like. Well worth a stop if you are in the area. After getting to New Norfolk and heading bush we finally ended up at Huenville (South of Hobart). This part of the trip saw a banging noise start in Pete's truck, shocky rubber missing, so after cutting up one of my new thongs and using it as a shocky rubber we were on our way only to be tricked by new logging tracks in the area, thanks to Sue we were able to find our way out of the area. "Live to get lost yet again another day"
Day 8:- Spent the afternoon at Port Arthur and yet another great meal prepared by our guests.
Day 9:- Nice day drive to St Helens. We had to make some detours due to a bridge being down on this section.
Day 10:- Now up in the top east corner, some great views along this run before we ended up in Bridport, fish and chips for dinner.
Day 11:- Great beach drive before we finished at our 4WD Angel Adventure Base, the small village of Ross. This will be the last night of the Adventure next year.
We still had a day to go so we went touring into the central highlands of Tassie, before ending up at Devonport to catch the ferry home.
Stiven, Yoke & Susan flew out of Melbourne while John, Peter & Brownie headed home.
Jason, Voo and yours truly headed off to Canberra to have a look at the War Museum, this would have to be the best. It is a must see for all Australians, to see where we came from and where we are heading.
The next day saw us arrive home from a great survey.
I would like to thank Chris & Chrissie Hummer for the hospitality give to us all while in Melbourne.
And a big thanks to all the crew for coming on the survey.
I will post pictures very soon.
Cheers
